Yemen is now having two separate presidents, two governments, separate governmental institutions.
In February 2018, the Ministry of Industry and Trade in Aden announced the formation of an independent IP Office and declared that all registrations in Sana'a are illegitimate.
Accordingly, there are now two totally separate IP offices in Yemen, one in Sana’a and another one in Aden.
The IP Office in Sana’a covers all those cities within the Northern part of Yemen.
The IP Office in Aden covers all those cities within the Southern part of Yemen.
The Trademark Office in Aden considers all trademarks registered in Sana’a after February 2018 as illegitimate.
The Trademark Office in Sana'a considers all registrations in Aden as illegitimate.
Trademarks that are registered in Sana'a should now be registered in Aden.
Those trademark registrations that are due for renewal should now be renewed in both Sana’a and Aden separately.
The Trademark Office in Aden has been established in February 2018 and has issued 56 Trade Gazettes since then.
