The Ordinance GM/MDIC No. 110, published on May 9, 2025, established an adjustment to the fee schedule for Intellectual Property Services at the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (“INPI”). The new fee table modifies the amounts charged for various services, with significant changes in trademark application fees.
The new fees will come into effect on August 7, 2025, and represent considerable increases, particularly for those who have not yet filed or intend to submit trademark applications with free-form specifications.
See the comparison:
Trademark application – pre-approved specification: from USD 81.00 to USD 180.00
Trademark application – free-form specification: from USD 77.00 to USD 320.00
What this means for trademark owners:
Higher upfront costs at the time of filing
Increased need to carefully assess the feasibility of registration
Greater importance of legal and technical support to avoid refusals and rework.
