This landmark occasion highlights the significance of industrial design as a vital component of intellectual property rights, contributing substantially to economic development, particularly within the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and Start-up sectors.

Since its enactment on 25th May 2000, the Designs Act, 2000 has played a pivotal role in safeguarding the aesthetic creativity of designers and promoting innovation. Key achievements include:

  • Adoption of global novelty standards in design assessment.

  • India’s accession to the Locarno Agreement for International Classification of Industrial Designs (2019).

  • Inclusion of MSMEs (2014) and Start-ups (2021) with reduced application fees.

  • Signing of the Design Law Treaty (DLT) at Riyadh in 2024.

  • Comprehensive digital transformation of the design registration process.

  • Availability of online tools such as E-Register of Designs and real-time application tracking.

To commemorate this significant milestone, CGPDTM will host a series of events and outreach initiatives to celebrate and raise awareness about the Indian design ecosystem. Stakeholders, including design professionals, innovators, MSMEs, Start-ups, and the general public, are cordially invited to participate in the celebrations.
