International IP Enforcement Summit – 12-13 June 2025 in Athens and online

Now in its 6th edition, the International IP Enforcement Summit will take place on 12-13 June 2025 in Athens, bringing together a diverse range of European and international experts, policymakers, and industry leaders to address the most pressing IP enforcement issues of our time. The plenary session of the summit will be broadcast live on the EUIPO website.

The summit is co-hosted by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation (OBI), the European Commission, and the Interagency Market Control Unit (DIMEA).

Global gathering of European and International IP experts

The summit will bring together key European and international decision-makers, law enforcement authorities, multinational companies, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), consumer representatives, and other relevant players to discuss ways to improve protection and enforcement of IP rights in the EU and across the globe. Speakers include João Negrão, Executive Director, EUIPO, Panagiotis Kanellopoulos, Director General, OBI, Daren Tang, Director General, World Intellectual Property Organization, Ilhan Kyuchyuk, Member of the European Parliament, Chair of the Committee on Legal Affairs, Kerstin Jorna, Director-General, DG GROW, European Commission, Spyridon Peristeris, Director, DIMEA and Matthew Bassiur, Vice President, Alibaba Group.

This edition features a strengthened international dimension, with speakers from Brazil, India, Korea and the Philippines, as well as leading representatives from the business sector, including Sanofi, OpenAI, LaLiga, Corsearch and Countercheck among others.

Discussions on key topics

The summit will address the pressing challenges of IP enforcement in the digital age, with a special focus on SMEs. It will also explore strategies to enhance IP rights enforcement in the EU and internationally, ensuring a secure world trade flow and safeguarding public and consumer safety. Finally, it will spotlight effective solutions and exemplary cooperation methods aimed at preserving the international innovative and creative landscape by countering both existing and emerging practices of IP crime.

Strategic timing and policy implications

The timing of the summit is strategic as it is taking place amidst the policy-making considerations at the onset of the new mandate of the EU institutions and ahead of the kick-off of the implementation of the 2026-2029 cycle of EMPACT – the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats. The summit will be an opportunity to take stock of the implementation of the European Commission recommendation on measures to combat counterfeiting and enhance the enforcement of IP rights. At the summit, participants will also analyse progress stemming from the enactment of the AI Act and the Digital Services Act and the implementation of the European Commission’s recommendation on combating online piracy of sports and other live events.

The plenary session of the summit will be broadcast live from Athens on the 2025 IP Enforcement Summit webpage (no prior registration is needed).
