An international application for a design based on the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement, which came into effect on May 13, 2015, will be deemed to be an application for design registration filed in Japan on the date of international registration (hereinafter referred to as an "international design registration application") once an international registration designating Japan has been internationally published by the International Bureau of WIPO (Article 60-6 of the Design Act).

The Japan Patent Officewill assign a domestic application number to each international design registration application, and this domestic application number will be used to manage the international design registration application in all subsequent procedures at the Japan Patent Office.

Regarding the application numbers assigned domestically, the JPO will publish the correspondence between the international registration number and design number of the international registration that formed the basis of the international design registration application and the corresponding domestic application numbers in the table below, and will also indicate this in the "Notice of Refusal" that the JPO notifies the International Bureau of WIPO .
