On 30 September and 1 October 2025, the Observatory of the EUIPO held its plenary meeting - an annual milestone event to reflect on the ongoing work and engage with stakeholders to shape future activities.
The meeting started with welcome and opening remarks by João Negrão, the Executive Director of the EUIPO, Sune Stampe Sørensen, the Director General of the Danish Patent and Trademark Office, Leire Pajín, Member of the European Parliament, and Nathalie Berger, Director, Competitiveness Coordination, DG GROW, European Commission.
The plenary meeting provided an opportunity to present the Observatory’s main activities carried out over the past year. Four panels addressed key IP topics: combating IP crime, scaling up IP skills for the next generations, implementing the Digital Services Act and exploring the role of emerging technologies - such as artificial intelligence and web crawler technologies – in enhancing IP enforcement investigations. Additionally, the role of Free Trade Zones (FTZs) in facilitating trade in counterfeited goods was discussed, and a session dedicated to sharing first experiences and good practices within the EU.
Participants also learned about the results of the 2024 joint DG TAXUD-EUIPO report on counterfeit seizures and attended a live demonstration of the new IP Enforcement Detentions Dashboard, designed to streamline access to data and figures on IP enforcement.
The Observatory of the EUIPO presented the draft Work Programme 2026 incorporating suggestions and comments received from the stakeholders.
The Observatory of the EUIPO thanks all the stakeholders who attended the plenary meeting, shared their views and experiences and contributed to shaping the Observatory’s agenda for the coming year.
The minutes of the Observatory plenary meeting will be published on this page of the EUIPO website in the coming weeks.
