The event brought together participants from 57 countries, representing a broad range of stakeholders in the global fight against e-commerce counterfeits. With officials from EUIPO and OLAF and WCO, customs authorities from European and third countries, as well as representatives of international and regional e-commerce platforms and of a payment provider, the event offered a unique opportunity to share information on current and future trends and best practices to address counterfeits and violations of intellectual property in the e-commerce sector.

By the numbers: Setting the stage with a new IP enforcement detention dashboard presenting the latest statistics

The event kicked off with a presentation of the recently released statistics on the EU enforcement of intellectual property rights. These numbers related to the detentions of counterfeit goods at the EU borders and in the EU internal market in 2024 are for the first time presented in an IP enforcement detention dashboard, jointly developed with the European Commission (DG TAXUD). This new format, replacing the former report

published every year since 2020, provides a dynamic and visual explanation of the last trends in IP detentions both at the border and in the internal market.

Representatives from OLAF pursued with a presentation of its approach to investigating counterfeit goods sold online, with a focus on investigation techniques and operational cooperation.

From customs to e-commerce platforms: A united front against counterfeits

Five major e-commerce platforms shared their experiences and approaches to tackling online sales of fakes. Law enforcement authorities from EU Member States and third countries also presented their strategies for combating counterfeits.

Additionally, a major payment provider shared its approach to managing information and cooperation with law enforcement authorities to fight online sales of fakes.

Fostering cooperation and information sharing

A panel discussion, "Enhancing Cooperation and Intelligence Sharing", brought together representatives from law enforcement authorities of EU Member States and third countries, as well as the World Customs Organization (WCO), to discuss ways to increase information exchanges and to identify areas for future cooperation.
