Starting from March 1, 2026, a new Federal Law regulating the use of language in public signage will enter into force in the Russian Federation.

Under this Law, consumer-facing information must be displayed in the Russian language. This includes signs, direction indicators, notice boards, and other visual information placed in shops, cafés, offices, public transport, and other public areas.

The use of foreign languages is permitted, provided that the Russian-language text is presented with equal prominence, including font size, typeface, and placement.

An exception applies, in particular, to registered trademarks in foreign languages, which may be used without translation.
