INPI 2025 key figures

Contents

  • 16,807 patent applications: +8,7%

  • 103,645 trademark applications: +14,1%

  • 5,304 design applications, a figure almost identical to 2024

  • 6,2 million transactions on the One-stop shop for Business Formalities

  • Four geographical indications (GIs) approved by the INPI, bringing the total to 25 in force.

The year 2025 is marked by a significant resurgence in industrial property filings, following several years of stabilization. The strong growth observed, particularly for patents and trademarks, illustrates the innovative capacity of French economic players, even in an uncertain environment. More broadly, these figures demonstrate the effectiveness of measures implemented in recent years, both to strengthen industrial property rights so they are better suited to business needs and to raise awareness of IP. This positive trend can also be seen in light of the recovery in business investment, up 0,8% in the third quarter of 2025, which has certainly facilitated the realization of numerous projects. Furthermore, the centralization of business creation at the INPI (National Institute of Industrial Property), through the Single Business Formalities Portal, allows for earlier awareness among businesses of the importance of industrial property, resulting in a 5% increase in patent applications from SMEs.
