The Intellectual Property Innovation Ranking published by World Trademark Review places the European Union Intellectual Property Office as the most innovative office in the world.
In the 2026 edition of the ranking, the EUIPO shares the top position with the UK Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO). IP offices from Australia and the Republic of Korea follow closely behind. Several European offices, including the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property, INPI France, the Polish Patent Office, INPI Portugal and the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA) are also recognized on the list.
According to World Trademark review (WTR), the EUIPO’s “continued leadership in innovation” is underpinned by its “scale, consistency and integration”, positioning the Office as “an example for all other IP offices”.
The ranking examines how IP offices go beyond core registration activities by assessing performance in areas such as digital transformation, user-oriented services, dispute resolution, support for small and medium-sized enterprises, and international cooperation.
In the 2026 edition, particular attention is given to the practical use of artificial intelligence and advanced digital solutions to improve efficiency, accessibility and the overall quality of services.
WTR highlights that the EUIPO stands out for the maturity of its digital and AI-enabled systems, including tools that support multilingual processes, examination and decision-making, as well as ongoing efforts to improve the user experience across the European Union.
This recognition reflects the Office’s long-term commitment to innovation in support of a modern, efficient and accessible EU intellectual property system, benefiting rights holders, businesses and citizens across the European Union.
This is the sixth time since 2017 that the EUIPO has been recognised as the world’s most innovative IP office. The EUIPO shared the top position with the Korean Intellectual Property Office in 2022 and ranked first outright in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2024.
