ISLAMABAD, January 9, 2026: A delegation of Muzaffarabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) headed by Khawaja Ahtisham Woogra, President MCCI, visited IPO Head Office, Islamabad for meeting with Mr. Nauman Aslam, Director General IPO-Pakistan for cooperation and support the larger national objectives of creating an effective and strong IP footprint in Pakistan.
Welcoming the MCCI delegation, Director General IPO-Pakistan appreciated the significant role being played by the Muzaffarabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) in assisting the government to develop the type of policy framework needed to bring meaningful improvements in the business environment aimed at spurring economic growth in the country. The Government is committed to provide all out support to business community and structure the economy on strong foundations through a scheme of incentives and structural reforms to help them emerge in this state of intense competitive environment. He further said that IPO-Pakistan has embarked on an inclusive advocacy program to create awareness amongst the masses. I am fully confident that together we can synergize our efforts to further the shared goals of economic development of the country through advocacy, networking, business support and information dissemination. Therefore, I believe that your support and cooperation will go a long way in materializing the objective of educating the people about the significance of IP in protecting and further promoting than businesses within Pakistan and abroad.
President MCCI thanked IPO-Pakistan for arranging this meeting with his team on a short notice. He expressed concern over the current situation of IP rights in the Muzaffarabad, pointing to a lack of awareness and prioritization among key stakeholders. Paying gratitude for the membership of MCCI in the IPR Enforcement Committee, Muzaffarabad he mentioned that the IP awareness and collaboration aimed to educate his team, on the importance of intellectual property in fostering innovation, is a key step in supporting the business holders. It was marked by enthusiastic participation and interactive discussions, reflecting a growing interest in IP among the business community. He informed about latest initiatives of the Government of Pakistan for harmonizing systems of Registrar of firms with SECP and FBR with CBR AJK in terms of facilitating company registration procedures.
A short presentation on the Contemporary approaches for wise use of IPRs for business development was given by Mr. Muhammad Ismail, Director, IPO-Pakistan. He underscored the vital role of IP in today’s knowledge-based economy, explaining how patents, trademarks, copyrights, GIs, and industrial designs protect innovation and incentivize creativity. He also elaborated on the significance of the WIPO Treaty on IPRs, noting that Pakistan a country rich in business creation and cultural heritage, must ensure its resources are not misappropriated by others. He stressed the need for both awareness and enforcement and highlighted the strategic importance of developing IP-protected businesses for Pakistan’s industrial economy. He invited researchers and businessmen to collaborate with IPO-Pakistan to document and protect these invaluable assets.
As a way forward, it was agreed that 1st Meeting of IPR Enforcement Coordination Committee, Muzaffarabad will be convened at the earliest, IP Facilitation Desk at MCCI will be established for support of business community to register their IP rights, Coordination for identification and protection of GIs and GRATK of AJK will be strengthened and IP Awareness Sessions will be jointly conducted for SMEs, Start-ups and creative community of AJK.
