The Indigenous Knowledge Panel (the Panel) was established in November 2024 to support our work on Indigenous Knowledge within the intellectual property (IP) system.
The Panel brings together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander experts – Chrissy Grant, Colin Saltmere and Shay Vigona-Gouge – to inform policy, legislation and operational considerations. This work helps ensure Indigenous perspectives are meaningfully considered in decision-making and future reform.
Over its first year, the Panel has helped build understanding across our agency, supported new ways of working with Indigenous Knowledge, and identified key issues and priorities that guide how Indigenous Knowledge is considered in our work.
To mark this milestone, Chrissy Grant, Chair of the Indigenous Knowledge Panel, has shared the Panel’s first communique. This communique outlines recent activities, priorities and early achievements, and explains how the Panel’s advice is contributing to our ongoing work.
Further communiques will be published to share the Panel’s evolving focus and areas of activity.
