The Ministry of Intellectual Property (MOIP) announced that on April 1 (Wednesday), it concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in Intellectual Property Protection and Enforcement with the Ministry of Law of Indonesia in Seoul, Republic of Korea, on the occasion of the Korea-Indonesia Summit.
The MoU, which was exchanged in the presence of the two heads of state, includes areas of cooperation such as: a) establishing a cooperation network for intellectual property enforcement; b) jointly responding to the distribution of counterfeit goods; and c) enhancing cooperation for the effective implementation of multilateral frameworks, including the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), particularly the provisions related to the protection of well-known trademarks and bad-faith trademark applications.
Since the conclusion of a comprehensive cooperation MoU in 2023, Korea and Indonesia have steadily expanded their collaboration in the field of intellectual property. The signing of this MoU on protection and enforcement marks a significant step toward establishing a more practical and structured framework for cooperation.
In particular, the MoU is expected to provide a solid foundation for systematic joint responses to the growing distribution of counterfeit goods across both online and offline channels, thereby supporting the enhancement of investigative and enforcement capacities.
Minister Kim Yong Sun of MOIP stated, "The signing of this MoU reaffirms the close cooperation between both countries in protecting and enforcing intellectual property, and the MOIP will continue to seek activie collaboration with our overseas counterparts."
