The Ministry of Intellectual Property (MOIP) announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Reinforced Cooperation in Intellectual Property with the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) on March 2. The agreement was exchanged in the presence of the two heads of state on the occasion of the Korea-Singapore Summit held at Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The MOU marks the first concrete outcome produced in the intellectual property (IP) field following the establishment of a strategic partnership between the two countries in 2025 in celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations. It also reflects the shared commitment of both sides to advance innovation through the successful artificial intelligence transformation (AX) of intellectual property systems. Under the MOU, MOIP and IPOS will carry out in-depth cooperation in key areas such as:

▲ AI-based examination and administrative services,

▲ legal and institutional frameworks related to artificial intelligence, and

▲ IP finance and commercialization supported by AI-based IP valuation.

Prior to the ceremony, MOIP Minister Kim Yong Sun and Chairman of IPOS Nicky Tan confirmed their shared view that IP will serve as a key foundation for growth of the future and industrial competitiveness amid accelerating digital transformation and intensifying global race for artificial intelligence. They also agreed to promptly begin working-level discussions on the implementation of the MOU.

Minister Kim stated, "It is highly meaningful that Korea and Singapore are strengthening AI-based cooperation in the IP field in step with the elevation of the bilateral relations to a strategic partnership on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations." He added, "MOIP will further enhance cooperation with Singapore to promote IP transactions and financing in the global market."
