On 4 May 2026, the Hellenic Copyright Organization (HCO) and the University of Cyprus signed a Memorandum of Educational Cooperation in Nicosia, laying the foundations for the development of joint initiatives in the field of education and copyright. This initiative confirms the commitment of the cooperating institutions to strengthening collaboration between universities and institutional bodies, actively contributing to the development of a modern and dynamic framework for copyright.

The Memorandum was signed by the Rector of the University of Cyprus, Professor T. Christofides, and the Deputy Director of the HCO, Ms Maria-Daphne Papadopoulou, who represented the Organization. The signing of the Memorandum marks the beginning of a strategic partnership aimed at promoting knowledge, strengthening research, and fostering innovation through joint initiatives, educational programmes, and awareness-raising activities.

The signing of the Memorandum was followed by a scientific lecture held at the Amphitheatre of the University of Cyprus, entitled “Copyright in Education and Research: Fundamental Principles and Challenges in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”, opened with a welcome address by the Rector of the University of Cyprus, Professor T. Christofides.

As part of the event, presentations were delivered by Ms Tatiana Eleni Synodinou, Professor of Private and Commercial Law (Department of Law) and Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at the University of Cyprus, on “Exceptions for education and research in Cypriot copyright law”; by Ms Maria-Daphne Papadopoulou, Deputy Director of the Hellenic Copyright Organization, on “Copyright in the academic environment”; and by Ms Maria G. Sinanidou, Scientific Associate of the Hellenic Copyright Organization, on “Copyright and research output in the age of artificial intelligence”.

The HCO delegation was also given a guided tour of the modern Library of the University of Cyprus by the Library Director, Ms Eleni Diomidi.
