Can you briefly introduce your start-up and its flagship service? Virginie SIMON BEAMS, a CNRS spin-off, is a French company specializing in medical devices for oncology. We use nuclear medicine to improve surgical precision and optimize the outcomes of surgical procedures. In cancer treatment, surgical revisions generate high costs and increase risks for patients.

Thanks to BEAMS technology, the number of reoperations could be significantly reduced, resulting in estimated global savings of €13 billion! We have indeed launched a research project to develop TRIOP, a real-time cancer cell detection system integrated into surgical instruments and compatible with all tumor surgeries. BEAMS' first product is a smart surgical probe that eliminates tumor cells while ensuring precise detection.

By enabling non-invasive localization of millimeter-sized tumors with high precision, TRIOP will improve surgical efficiency, increase survival rates and reduce post-operative treatments.

Why are you participating in the INPI & WIPO x HEC Challenge + Pitch Contest? VS Winner of the i-Lab 2023 competition and of the Bpifrance France 2030 call for projects for 2026, Beams is a company deeply oriented towards innovation: more than 80% of our resources are devoted to R&D. Intellectual property is at the heart of our strategy. It allows us to both protect our technology and anticipate the development of our future products.

Having completed an initial funding round of €3 million, our goal is now to attract new partners to quickly launch a €12 million round and accelerate our development.

In this context, the INPI, WIPO, and HEC Paris Pitch Contest is an excellent opportunity to showcase our strengths, and it is an honor to participate. Virginie Simon, President and co-founder of BEAMS © BEAMS What is your biggest challenge? VS This year marks a major turning point for Beams. We have validated our preclinical results on different models ( vitro small animals) and are now engaged in clinical trials, both in the veterinary field on canine patients with natural cancers, and in human medicine.

Our main challenge is to identify and bring together the right financial partners in order to deploy these clinical trials in humans on a large scale, a key step towards bringing our solution to market.

What solutions does the INPI offer you? VS : The INPI supports us in structuring and securing our intellectual property strategy, a central issue for a medtech like ours. Beyond protecting our innovations, the Institute also allows us to strengthen our credibility with investors and partners, and to build a coherent long-term vision around our portfolio of industrial property titles.
