On July 7, the 68th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (hereinafter "WIPO") opened in Geneva, Switzerland. Shen Changyu, Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), led the Chinese government delegation to the meetings and delivered a general statement. On July 8, the delegation held talks with WIPO Director General Daren Tang and exchanged views on continuing to strengthen cooperation between the two sides. Ambassador Jia Guide, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and Other International Organizations in Switzerland, and WIPO Deputy Director General Wang Binying attended the talks.

In his general statement at the Assemblies, Shen Changyu introduced the latest developments in China's intellectual property undertakings. He stated that the Chinese government attaches great importance to intellectual property work, continues to advance the building of an intellectual property powerhouse, strengthens whole-chain protection, and promotes the efficient utilization of intellectual property. China has successfully completed the objectives and tasks of its 14th Five-Year Plan for intellectual property and is now formulating and implementing the 15th Five-Year Plan for intellectual property, providing strong support for high-quality economic and social development.

Shen Changyu expressed appreciation for the achievements made by WIPO over the past year and congratulated Director General Daren Tang on his re-election by a large majority of votes. He voiced support for WIPO in playing a greater role in promoting the building of a global intellectual property ecosystem and in continuing to improve the global intellectual property service system, and expressed the hope that WIPO would continue to advance the mainstreaming of development work.

The Chinese government delegation was composed of members from the China National Intellectual Property Administration, the National Copyright Administration of China, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Permanent Mission of China in Geneva, and the Intellectual Property Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, the China Trademark Association, and the All-China Patent Attorneys Association attended the meetings as observers.
