Recently, Gao Shenghua, Director-General of the Reexamination and Invalidation Department of the Patent Office of the China National Intellectual Property Administration, led a delegation to Shanghai to conduct a thematic study on administrative adjudication under the mechanism for the early resolution of pharmaceutical patent disputes (hereinafter "pharmaceutical adjudication"). The delegation visited relevant pharmaceutical enterprises and held a thematic symposium attended by more than 20 organisations.

Gao Shenghua stated that the Reexamination and Invalidation Department has resolutely implemented the decisions and arrangements of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council and the work requirements of the Administration's Party Leadership Group, and has actively carried out newly added central responsibilities such as pharmaceutical adjudication, achieving positive progress in optimising the administrative adjudication system, improving the quality and efficiency of case handling, building the team of case handlers, and strengthening inter-departmental coordination. As of the end of June 2026, a cumulative total of 259 pharmaceutical adjudication cases had been concluded, effectively supporting the review and approval of generic drugs for marketing. Yu Chen, Deputy Director-General of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, presented the state of pharmaceutical patent protection work in Shanghai. Officials from the Intellectual Property Protection Department and the Reexamination and Invalidation Department responded on the spot to the opinions and suggestions raised by the participating representatives.
