Recently, the 2026 IP5 high-level meeting of the reexamination and appeal bodies of the intellectual property offices of China, the United States, Europe, Japan and the Republic of Korea was held in a hybrid online and offline format. Gao Shenghua, Director-General of the Reexamination and Invalidation Department of the China National Intellectual Property Administration, led a delegation and attended online.

At the meeting, the reexamination bodies of the five offices presented the latest developments in their reexamination and invalidation work. The parties held in-depth exchanges on measures to improve examination quality and efficiency, in particular on the currently much-discussed application of artificial intelligence technology in reexamination and invalidation examination, and reached agreement in principle on further expanding exchanges and cooperation among the five offices in the field of reexamination and invalidation in the future.

In addition, the five offices and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) held a reexamination and invalidation users' meeting during the same period, at which the reexamination bodies shared information on the latest developments and user-friendly services, and WIPO presented its activities relating to intellectual property adjudication and its case-search resources.

Going forward, the reexamination bodies of the five offices will continue to carry out pragmatic cooperation and exchanges, striving to provide higher-quality services to intellectual property users worldwide.
