Recently the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) released the 2026 ranking of the world's top 100 innovation clusters. The number of top 100 global innovation clusters located in China ranked first in the world for the fourth consecutive year, with the Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Guangzhou cluster retaining the top position worldwide. This is also the second consecutive year in which China has achieved a "double first", demonstrating the remarkable achievements China has made in implementing the innovation-driven development strategy and accelerating the building of a country strong in science and technology and in intellectual property.

Among the world's top 100 innovation clusters, China has a total of 25 clusters on the list (not counting the Taipei-Hsinchu cluster from China's Taiwan region), one more than last year. The United States ranks second with a total of 20 clusters on the list, followed by Germany (7), the United Kingdom (4), India (4), Japan (3), the Republic of Korea (3) and Canada (3). The top 15 innovation clusters worldwide are, in order: Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Guangzhou, Tokyo-Yokohama, San Jose-San Francisco, Beijing, Seoul, Shanghai-Suzhou, New York, London, Boston-Cambridge, Osaka-Kobe-Kyoto, Paris, Los Angeles, Hangzhou, San Diego and Nanjing.

Among the 25 Chinese clusters on the list, the Ningde cluster rose fastest, jumping sharply from 99th last year to 75th this year, an increase of a full 24 places.
