The EUIPO and the EIT organise the fifth edition of the IP Masterclass for school students and teachers

On 25 April 2025, on the occasion of World IP Day 2025, the EUIPO’s IP Next-GEN initiative and the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) – EIT RawMaterials, organised a joint IP masterclass attended by more than 400 secondary school students and teachers who are part of the Girls Go Circular initiative. The masterclass provided participants with knowledge and tips on how their creativity and innovation could be protected through IP rights. A special focus was set on music, gaming and fashion in light of the World IP Day 2025 motto “IP and music: Feel the beat of IP”. This was the first IP Masterclass organised in the framework of the IP Next-GEN initiative under the EUIPO’s 2030 Strategic Plan which aims at equipping young people with IP skills given that they are key skills for future competitiveness.

Girls Go Circular is an educational initiative led by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology Community, coordinated by EIT RawMaterials, and supported by the Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport, and Culture of the European Commission. Through its learning programme, it aims to equip girls aged between 14 and 19, with digital and entrepreneurial skills. Since its inception in 2020, it has provided over 100,000 students with access to digital, entrepreneurial and green skills, preparing them to address the challenges of tomorrow’s workforce and contribute to building a sustainable future.

This is the fifth edition of the IP masterclass, organised as part of the collaboration agreement between the EUIPO and the EIT. The five editions have trained over 500 students and teachers on IP skills. Under the same agreement, learning modules created by IP in Education for the EIT’s Girls Go Circular learning platform have been launched and since their launch in 2022, they have been completed by over 8 000 participants.
